Getting the Most Out of Your Printer

If you’re one of the millions of Americans who work in an office setting, chances are your printer is in near-constant use throughout the course of an average workday. The printer isn’t just an effective tool for accomplishing a day’s workload, it’s a part of your team, and as such, it’s important that you do what you can to get the most out of it. We’ve compiled a list of helpful tips to make sure it holds up its end of workplace responsibilities.

Regular Use

While this might be a given for many, keeping a printer in regular use is a good way to determine its current state of upkeep. Using your printer regularly keeps the ink from drying up and keeps the print heads free and clear of debris.

Clean Your Printer Head on a Regular Basis

Depending upon how often your printer is in use, it’s advisable to clean your print head at least once a month. You don’t need any fancy chemicals or solvents to do so, all you need are some tissues and some warm water. Once the head area of the printer is dry, reinstall the cartridge and you should be good to go. Print a page or two to test out the quality of the print before resuming normal use.

Keep the Dust Away from Your Printer…

Again, how often you do this all depends upon how often you use your printer. Every time a piece of paper travels through the device, it leaves a slight amount of dust particles which can build up over time and hinder your printer’s effectiveness. Once a week, the use of some compressed air can alleviate this situation and help you prevent costly repairs in the future.

…And an Eye on Your Ink Levels

This is probably the easiest measure you can take to make sure you get the most out of your printer. A daily quick look depending upon the volume of usage will help you stay ahead of the replacement game. Not to mention, it can save you the untimely embarrassment of suddenly running out during a larger-than-average print job.
